(10/27/2026) Synod2026 met October 16 & 17 in Sherbrooke, QC; included was a 2-day conference on the theme
"Voices and Perspectives of the Global Church" with guest speaker Dr. Martin Bellerose. The new moderator, who will hold that position for the next two years, is Katherine Burgess. Dr. Bellrose addressed the gathering three times; the theme abstract is available here.

calls, inductions and more... Rev. Dr. Prudence Neba was recently called to Montreal West Presbyterian Church.
The induction took place Sunday October 4 @ 4 PM. On the south shore, St. Andrew's St. Lambert have extended a call to the Rev. Dr. Roland De Vries, with a start date "at the end of this year". Then some recent detective work produced more new info: a "new" congregation in Rivière-des-Prairies, listed in the 2026 A&P, although it actually began back in 2019. The pastor is David Mang. Synod Council contact info updates... James Hurd retired as minister of Parkwood church, Ottawa on August 31, but continues as
clerk of the Presbytery of Ottawa; his contact info is now his home address, including a new cellphone number. Also, our Synod treasurer, Bruce Kemp, has had a change of
e-mail address that now allows for funds transfers by e-transfer. The contacts page has been updated accordingly.

auspices of the United Church in Canada, will work part-time with the presbyterian congregations in the Kinnears Mills, Inverness, and Thetford Mines area.
This is effective as of July 1, 2026. Welcome, Tami!

We regret to announce the passing of Leo Hughes, retired minister on the appendix to the roll of the Presbytery of Lanark and Renfrew, and former long-time minister of St. Andrew’s Church, Arnprior, on April 11, 2026 at the age of 95 years. Dr. Hughes served as Moderator of the Synod of Québec and Eastern Ontario in 1974.
The funeral is scheduled for Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Church, Arnprior.

"Safe Church": Recently there has been some conversation in the PCC around the concept of "safe church', providing our people
with a safe environment to worship, learn and grow in faith. It encompasses three existing policies within the PCC: Leading with Care, Harassment and Sexual Abuse and Harassment.
This conversation is in the early stages, but Synod Council thought it would be appropriate to point to
some resources on our national website dealing with this.

We regret to announce the passing of Barry Mack, in Cornwall on January 21, 2026.
Barry was a member of the Presbytery of Seaway-Glengarry, on the appendix to the roll.
He resided in Cornwall with his wife Anita. Barry served for many years within the Presbytery of Montreal as minister at St. Andrew's Church in St. Lambert.
He retired on September 30, 2022. Barry also served on the Synod Council for many years as the Mission and Robert Fund Convener. Please uphold Anita and their family in prayer.
Barry's funeral took place Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. at St. John’s Church, Cornwall ON.

We regret to announce the passing of JSS Armour, peacefully at home on July 12, 2025, in Montreal, Quebec. A public memorial service was held on
Friday, August 8th at 11am in the Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul, 3415 Redpath Street, Montreal, with a private interment at the
Belvedere Cemetery in Senneville, Quebec. Read James' obituary here.
We regret to announce the passing of Peter Szabo, in Montreal on 1 July 2025.
He was by far the longest continuously serving member of the Presbytery of Montreal.
He left Hungary in 1970 for having spoken out for Christian leaders under the Communist government of the time, and supported refugee causes here.
He pastored the Hungarian Church for over fifty years, and inspired the establishment of a Hungarian Senior’s Home in Montreal.
A funeral service was held on Friday 11 July 2025 @ 11 am at
Livingstone Presbyterian Church, 7110 avenue de l’Épée, Montréal. Read Peter's obituary here.

The WMS Synodical of Quebec and Eastern Ontario AGM will be held on Friday, April 25th, 2025 from 9.30 am to 3 pm at St Paul’s Presbyterian Church,
319 Prescott Street, Kemptville (MAP). The theme will be “Resilience” with speaker Diana Kemp on Cuba.
The lunch meal costs $15.
